Bulanga Primary School

Project Overview

We built our water borehole at Bulanga Primary School, which has 1,200 students. The borehole also serves the local community of approximately 2,300 people. The main water source they were previously using was a shallow dug well close to the swamp, which was contaminated and regularly dried up in the dry season. The two nearest water boreholes were located some distance away in the trading centre and at another local school, both of which are greatly congested, resulting in the school children missing lessons to collect their water. The journey to get to the two boreholes was also dangerous, especially for the girls, because of problems with drugs, and the children were often subjected to verbal and physical abuse.
