Running Well is a charitable foundation which provides people living in underdeveloped and remote parts of Uganda with access to clean water primarily by building water boreholes. The charity’s other aim is to encourage people to take up running or any other personal challenge to help raise funds for the projects it supports.
Running Well operates on a purely voluntary basis and its Trustees and members manage all the projects it supports directly themselves. The Trustees between them have extensive experience in business management and operations, investment and fund management, financing, project management, logistics, human resources and fundraising, as well as undertaking other charitable work and participating in sporting events.
The idea of establishing Running Well was first conceived by our Founder, Julian Gabriel, following a successful fundraising campaign he undertook to raise enough sponsorship to build a water borehole in a remote part of Uganda called Irundu by running six marathons in seven days across the Sahara desert.
Our first trip to Uganda to visit the local communities and project team.
Julian completes his 250km run across the Sahara desert and raises enough sponsorship to build our first three boreholes.
Our second trip to Uganda to see the three water boreholes being completed.
Running Well becomes a registered charity.
